CANCELED: Intro to Stargazing

  • Steep Falls Village Preserve Mill Street Standish, ME United States (map)

Come learn about the stars, constellations, planets and other interesting sights that can be seen from the Presumpscot region during the winter. This is also a great chance to check out our newest conserved land, the Steep Falls Village Preserve, where the wide open meadows and separation from streets and buildings affords a great view of the night sky.

The event will be led by Edward Herrick-Gleason, Director of the University of Southern Maine Planetarium. He will share his expertise on all things celestial, and there will be plenty of time for questions.

To enjoy this event safely, you should be comfortable walking approximately a half-mile (round-trip) on uneven woods and grass trails in the dark with a flashlight. The content will also be geared towards adults and will be best for kids 12 and over.

Whether you don’t yet know the first thing about the night sky or are an avid amateur keen to experience the perspective of an expert, this event is for you.

This event is free, but registration is required due to limited space.  Please click here to register.

The backup date is Wednesday, March 2nd in case the skies are not clear on the 1st, and Thursday, March 3rd will be the second back-up date.
