Landslides of the Presumpscot River

Join us to learn about the amazing geology of the Presumpscot River region and why landslides have been so common here throughout recent geological history. Discover how our region was not so long ago covered by ocean until the ice retreated and processes of weathering and erosion began to shape the landscape we see today. The presentation will be given by Irwin Novak, Professor Emeritus of Geology at the University of Southern Maine.

His teaching focused on Geomorphology, and Glacial Geology. He was formerly Associate Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences and a member of the Russell Scholars Faculty. His research focused on the geology of Maine as viewed from space using satellite imagery.
