Spring Birding "Big Week": Online and Solo Field Event

In May our online and solo field birding event will provide education about local birds and give you the opportunity to learn about the birds you see on our preserves and trails.

For one week, starting on Monday, May 18th everyone is encouraged to visit our land trust preserves (see our Preserves page for a full list of our Preserves with maps), walk the trails, look for birds, then share photos and audio recording of birds you collect on social media, and we will help to identify the birds and answer any other questions about them.

This event is for anyone interested in learning and sharing about birds, beginners through experts. We will provide a variety of resources to get you started with what birds to look for and how to identify them. We will also be creating a post on our Facebook page where you can share photos, sound recordings, and ask questions that will be answered by Maine Master Naturalist Marion Sprague, local bird enthusiast and co-coordinator of Maine Young Birders Club. To make this a “Big Week”, we will compile a list of all of the different species seen during the week and share it via email.

To participate:

1) Register below for background resources.

2) Visit any of our preserve trails and photograph, record, or write down the birds you see.

3) Post your photos, sound recordings, lists, or questions in the Facebook thread.

4) Check back during/after the week to see what everyone else found and how many total birds we encountered.
