Family Event: Story Walk, Scavenger Hunt and Loop Hike

In July we will be creating a Story Walk at Hawkes Preserve in collaboration with the United Way of Southern Maine’s Brick & Beam Society, and North Atlantic States Regional Council of Carpenters. To introduce this great family resource, we are holding a self-guided family-friendly field. Come walk the historic towpath along the Presumpscot River where the Story Walk pages will be posted, and then continue on the 1-mile loop to go through a Nature Scavenger Hunt and build fairy and gnome homes in a forested village. The event will last for a week, and you can send us photos from your adventure and we will share them on social media.

The trail is generally flat and easy and can typically be hiked by children aged 3+, and by younger children if they can be carried for short stretches.

Registrants will receive in advance of the event information about the new Story Walk, a map of the new loop hiking trail with scavenger hunt, and ideas for fairy & gnome homes made from nature materials. While this is a family event, people of all ages will enjoy this new adventure and are welcome to register.
