Exploring for Mushrooms: Online and Solo Field Event

In July our online and solo field mushroom event will provide education about Maine mushrooms and give you the opportunity to learn about the fungi you see on our preserves and trails.

For one week, starting on Monday, July 13th everyone is encouraged to visit our land trust preserves (see our Preserves page for a full list of our Preserves with maps), walk the trails, look for any and all fungi, then share photos or questions about what you see on social media. We will help to identify mushrooms and provide education on the important role that fungi play in ecosystems in Maine and around the world.

This event is for anyone interested in learning and sharing about mushrooms, beginners through experts. We will provide a variety of resources to get you started with what to look for and how to interpret what you see. We will also be creating a post on our Facebook page where you can share photos and ask questions that will be answered by Maine Master Naturalist and local fungi enthusiast, Alan Seamans.

To participate:

1) Register below to receive helpful background resources and updates.

2) Visit any of our preserve trails and photograph or write down the mushrooms you see.

3) Post your photos, lists, or questions in the Facebook thread.

4) Check back during/after the week to see what everyone else found and to learn about the ecology of fungi.

Participation is free, but registration is required so that we can get you the information you’ll need to participate.
