Alewife Migration Walk (June 1st Option)

  • Mill Brook Preserve Methodist Rd Westbrook, ME (map)

This event is now full. We are hosting two Alewife Migration walks this year with partners, The Gulf of Maine Research Institute. This is the second date option for June 1st.

Join us the Presumpscot Regional Land Trust and the Gulf of Main Research Institute, on a walk during the annual alewife migration season at Mill Brook Preserve in Westbrook. The walk will be about 2 miles round-trip on uneven, hilly terrain. GMRI scientists will guide us through the process of observing and collecting data on these fascinating fish.

During the event, we’ll discuss the significance of the alewife to our ecosystem and the challenges they face during their spawning run. We’ll also learn about the methods used by scientists to collect data on these fish and how the data help us gain a better understanding of the pace and direction of these changes taking place in the coastal marine fishery ecosystems that support our region

All are welcome to register and learn about the alewife and the important role they play in our environment. Parking is limited and information will be shared with registered participants.

We look forward to seeing you there!
